For shopify merchants passing on fees
Wharfage
Card, packaging, tariff surcharges · $7.99 a month

Adds surcharges and extra fees as named lines, online, at the till and on draft orders.

Wharfage keeps your fee rules: fixed or percentage, on the whole order or on tagged products, by channel, payment kind, order size, country and state. Each fee is its own named line, the same online, on your POS till and on draft orders. Card fees are checked against common surcharge rules: at most 3%, credit cards only, not in Connecticut or Massachusetts, named before payment. It finds past orders with fees missed or doubled. An online card fee by payment method needs Shopify Plus.

The problem

Wharfage keeps your fee rules: fixed or percentage, on the whole order or on tagged products, by channel, payment kind, order size, country and state.

The two incumbents carry 328 reviews between them (re-opened 2026-10-16: Upcharge Surcharge Fee Tariff, 4.7 stars from 197, Basic $9.99/mo with payment- and shipping-method fees on a $29.99 Plus plan; Magical Surcharge + Extra Fees, 4.9 stars from 131, $9/mo). Neither page says a word about draft orders or the card-surcharge rules. Wharfage's pitch: one price, the same fees on all three ways an order is made, a card fee that cannot quietly break the card rules, and a list of the orders where a fee was missed or doubled.

  • adds each fee as its own named line, with its working, online, on the till (POS) and on the orders staff type up (draft orders);
  • checks every card fee against the rules a shop gets fined for: at most 3%, credit cards only (never debit or prepaid), not to buyers in Connecticut or Massachusetts, and named to the buyer before they pay;
  • checks the rules against each other and the catalog: a fee on a tag no product carries, two fees under one name on the same product, a fee bigger than the item, a fee with no name for the buyer;
