The problem
Customer file uploads on a Shopify product page, where every file is read from its own bytes and checked against what that product needs — before it can reach the cart — and deleted on a stated day after the order ships.
Print, photo and custom-gift sellers. The incumbent (Uploadly, 4.8 stars, 186 reviews) is free to 20 uploads, $7.99 for 500, $17.99 unlimited, keeping files 60–90 days. Its listing says nothing about resolution checks or requiring an upload before the cart; a June 2026 reviewer asked to be warned when customers leave a background on their file.
What it does
Inside Satchel
PNG size and transparency from its IHDR chunk, JPEG size and CMYK from its start-of-frame (progressive included), PDF, SVG and HEIC by their signatures. Checked against real files made by the Python imaging library.
type, size, resolution at the print size (either way round, with the pixel size that would work if it is refused), shape (a 3:2 photo on a 5:4 canvas is cropped — said so), CMYK on screen, and a background left on a product printed without one — no transparency at all, or solid corners on a file that has it.
